It's Back to School We Go!: First Day Stories From Around the Worldby Ellen Jackson and Jan Davey Ellis | Aug 1, 2003

This book tells about different children around the world and what their first day of school looks like.  For each student, I can think of an activity to do with my class.

For one, they each have a greeting we can use for our morning meetings.  Secondly, we will locate their homes on a map.

Other examples include but are not limited to:
Achieng, for Kenya: Try using a ball of rags tied together for a soccer ball.

Anton from Kazakhstan: Show a video of the instrument dombra to hear how it sounds.

Kendi from Nunavut, Canada: Play the blanket game (similar to our parachute game in America).

Jessica for Australia: Look up the different Australian animals and vote on favorites.

There are also a lot of opportunities to try new foods!

I love books so much!  My particular loves are children's books and professional books that catch my fancy.  One thing that keeps me happy and sane as a teacher is being able to get tons of books from the library and share them with my students.  I have tried different ways to keep track of my books, but here's another attempt.  We'll se if I can make this one fly!
