I adore this book! Fetterer is the author and illustrator. The illustrations are bold and beautiful in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. There is even a cameo of Van Gogh in the book. Emile is a cat that lives at home with his couple. Their life is simple and he is happy. But one day he sees a butterfly outside of his window and simply must go exploring. He meets up with other cats and finds much color on his journey. Once he returns home, color comes into the home. "Emile had brought color into the house." The man got paints and paintbrushes, the woman bought flowers and the house was never grey again. Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook most certainly fits the bill. When Zach meets his new teacher, Miss Smith, he expects her to be boring. But, boy, is he wrong! When Miss Smith reads stories the characters COME TO LIFE! One day Miss Smith is out of the room and so many characters out of the books that things get a little crazy. Gilmore has created a fantasy world where a small girl is a doctor among the crocodiles. Her kindness and bravery are admirable. The main character writes: "They are big." "They eat things." and "They are mean." She is in for a surprise when a polar bear shows up in her room and declares that not all polar bears are mean. He then takes her out a tour of his habitat. The pictures are stunning. This would be a great book to show students what NOT to do for a report and what TO DO for a report.
