Lucky Little Learners TikTok creator suggests having a routine for what you do when during the week. One suggestions she gave was:
1. Monday Grade
2. Tuesday Prepare centers
3. Wednesday Lesson Plan for next Week
4. Thursday Make Copies
5. Friday Clean Desk
I really like this idea as an organizational strategy. I have had friends over the years who have a "late night" at school to get everything ready for the next week. This is appealing to me, too. However I am sometimes too social and don't get as much done as I would like.
My goal is to not work on the weekends. Period. What might LLL's suggestion look like for me? Here are some categories for me:
1. Put assignments into Canvas
2. Grade and enter grades
3. Write possitive notes
4. Plan lessons
5. Create/find interesting ways for me to teach and students to learn
6. Emailing and calling parents
7. Making copies (though not very many since I am mostly digital)
8. Get all materials around for the next week
One issue with this is that last year I did MUCH better grading (or making checklists) that same day so I know which students did not complete their work. This emboldened me and made me feel more in touch with my students' progress.
Perhaps I am the kind of person who needs to make sure she prioritizes what she wants to get done and WRITES it IN HER CALENDAR.
Half of the battle is acknowledging what you want to work on and then reflecting on how to do it. The other half of the battle is DOING IT. Stay tuned...
