Summer Learnings action Plan Phase 1 (Getting all of my thoughts down)

8/8/2019

It's time.  Time to sift down my learning and decide what action steps I want to implement this year.

Let phase 1 begin.  I am going to put notes here about my hopes, thoughts, learnings, links, etc.  Phase 2 will whittle things down to a handful of key action plans.

Visible Learning 👀

1. Activator and evaluator: It is my responsibility to evaluate the impact my teaching is having on my students.  By teaching I mean instruction, activities, etc.
2. It is okay to make mistakes.  Growth mindset.  Really teach this.
3. The struggle is part of learning.  If you are not struggling there is a good chance you are not learning.
4.  Believe that they can and they will.
5.  Students self-efficacy and self-belief are paramount.
6.  Where am I going?  How am I going to get there?  Where to next?
7.  Teach strategies for learning that students can access and draw from when they are struggling.
8.  Less teacher talk.
9.  Objective must be obvious and criteria must be posted.
10.  Use data sheet found on Twitter to keep track of learning.

Questions for myself:
1. Do I want them to use this as their workspace?  Or just their prime space?  As I am writing this, I think that using Seesaw and G-Suite for work spaces and their portfolios for artifacts would work well for this year.

2. How often will they post?  I'd like to have regular postings.  Oh my golly.  I see that you can insert anything from G-Suite right into the website.  I would say post on their blog 1x/week and post one other item 1x/week.  KISS.  Also, they will post data and reflect when that is applicable.  If we get to the point where they say, "Can I blog?" or "Can I add an artifact?"  we will most likely be flexible!  Also, they will be inserting their documentation for the 40 book challenge.

SEL
1.  Work on developing strong relationships.
     a.   Go out to recess 1x/week
     b.  Address notecards and put a stamp on it.  During the first few weeks, send cards in the mail as you notice positive things about each student.
     c.  Keep track of what you learn about each student.
     d.  Daily community circles
     e.  Discuss characters' strengths and resilience in stories.
